  13.           You are probably anxious to get started, but there are a few
  14.           points worth mentioning.
  15.  
  16.           1.  If all else fails, read the PCForm Reference Manual.
  17.  
  18.               a.  The manual is easily printed by using the  following
  19.                   DOS command line entry.
  20.  
  21.                   COPY PCFORM.DOC PRN  <ENTER>
  22.  
  23.               b.  Be sure your  printer  is  turned  on  and  properly
  24.                   aligned  for  top  of  page.   Page  form  feeds are
  25.                   provided and the manual is 46 pages long.
  26.  
  27.               Note:  Some printers do not automatically apply the line
  28.                      drawing characters used on the front cover of the
  29.                      manual.   Most  printers can be externally set to
  30.                      print these  characters.   Why  printer  manufac-
  31.                      turers  do  not  default to these line characters
  32.                      (upper ASCII) is beyond reason.

  35.           2.  PCForm is self installing.
  36.  
  37.               a.  The  following DOS command line entry will begin the
  38.                   installation process.
  39.  
  40.                   PCFORM INSTALL  <ENTER>
  41.  
  42.               b.  You will be prompted for the install destination.
  43.  
  44.                   example:  C:\PCFORM
  45.  
  46.               c.  If the location given does not  exist,  PCForm  will
  47.                   create it for you.
  48.  
  49.               Note:  PCFORM.EXE is  the  only  file  copied  with  the
  50.                      'install'  service.   The remaining support files
  51.                      are not essential for the  operation  of  PCForm.
  52.                      This  feature helps to conserve on available disk
  53.                      space.  These additional files should be kept  in
  54.                      a  save place when needed for future reference or
  55.                      use.

  60.           3.  SET your environment variable.
  61.  
  62.               a.  If PCForm is  not  in  the  current  directory  when
  63.                   started,  it will look for the following environment
  64.                   variable to locate internal data.  If this  variable
  65.                   is  not present, you are asked to enter the location
  66.                   of PCForm.  To avoid this constant entry a line  can
  67.                   be added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  69.                   SET PCFORM=location
  70.  
  71.               b.  Replace "location" with the drive  and/or  directory
  72.                   where PCForm resides.

  74.                   example:  SET PCFORM=C:\PCFORM

  77.           4.  Establish your startup search path.
  78.  
  79.               a.  To avoid root directory clutter,  PCForm  will  org-
  80.                   anize  your  forms  from  an  established  drive and
  81.                   directory.  Use the menu option  Setup/Path,  within
  82.                   PCForm, to create your own startup search path.  The
  83.                   initial  default  settings are the current drive and
  84.                   the directory \PCFORM.

  86.               b.  Use the menu option  'Setup/Save' to  make  any  new
  87.                   settings available for the next use of PCForm.

  90.           5.  Provided with PCForm is a set of samples  forms.   These
  91.               forms  are  compressed  in  a self-extracting file named
  92.               FORMS.EXE.  Contained also within this file is a  sample
  93.               Auto-Tab file named JOBCOST.(T).

  95.               a.  To  uncompress  the  sample files type the following
  96.                   line at your DOS prompt and read the instructions.

  98.                   FORMS  <ENTER>
  99.  
  100.               b.  To use the Auto-Tab file copy it to the  same  drive
  101.                   and   directory   location  where  you  have  placed
  102.                   PCFORM.EXE.  Next, start PCForm and load the  sample
  103.                   form   JOBCOST.FRM.   Now  select  the  menu  option
  104.                   'Tab/Load Set' to select and activate  the  Auto-Tab
  105.                   file.

  107.                   Note:  Please  read  the  section  of  the Reference
  108.                          Manual  'Pull  Down  Menu  -  Tab'  for  more
  109.                          information on the new Auto-Tab features.
